Chinese Nutrition vs Western Nutrition

Nutrition is a cornerstone of good health. Sun Si Mao, a Chinese physician during the Tang Dynasty (618 A.D.) recorded “Without the knowledge of proper diet, it is hardly possible to enjoy good health.”

Chinese nutrition is a great way to take a closer look at what we eat. While Western nutrition categorizes foods by nutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates, etc.), Chinese nutritional therapy emphasizes the qualitative effects of foods on the body. Chinese nutrition classifies foods by criteria such as thermal nature and flavor.

By assessing the nature of the patient’s qi energy, the practitioner can recommend foods as mild therapeutics to help the patient’s energy remain in balance and keep them in health.
