In this treatment, the skin is rubbed using various tools to produce light redness. While this may be a strange sensation, Gua Sha should never be painful to the patient.

Gua Sha treatment is typically applied on the back, neck, shoulders, buttocks, and limbs but can be applied to areas on the front of the body as well. Oil is applied to the skin before treatment to reduce friction.

The sha marks will typically disappear within two to three days after the treatment. Although the sha will go away, the pain relief can last.
